Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of medical conditions. It works with the structure and function of the body and is based on the principle that the well-being of an individual depends on every body system functioning smoothly together. This not only includes the skeleton, muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues, but also organs, blood vessels, the lymphatic system, nerves, and also the mind. Osteopaths seek out the cause of an issue rather than just treating the symptoms. We aim to resolve not only painful areas, but to greatly improve your overall wellbeing. Patients often report better sleep and more energy after having had treatments.

Osteopaths work to restore your body to a state of balance, where possible without the use of drugs or surgery. As Osteopaths we use touch, physical manipulation, stretching and massage to increase the mobility of joints, to relieve muscle tension, to enhance the blood and nerve supply to tissues and organs, and to help improve your body’s own healing mechanisms. We also provide lifestyle advice and exercise programmes to aid recovery, promote health and prevent symptoms recurring.

We are trained to identify when a patient needs to be referred to a GP or needs further tests to help diagnose a problem. All osteopaths in the UK are governed and regulated by the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC).

We are required to renew our registration each year and obtain an annual licence to practise. As part of this process, the GOsC checks that Osteopaths have current professional indemnity insurance, remain in good health and of good character, and have met mandatory continuing professional development requirements.

Common difficulties that Osteopathy can really help with include:

- Arthritic pain
- Circulatory problems
- Cramp
- Digestion problems
- Fibromyalgia
- Frozen shoulder
- Shoulder and elbow pain
- Tennis elbow
- Hip, knee, ankle and foot pain
- Headaches arising from the neck
- Joint pains
- General, acute & chronic backache
- Back and neck pain
- Migraine prevention
- Minor sports injuries
- Muscle spasms
- Neuralgia
- Tension and inability to relax
- Rheumatic pain
- Sciatica

Persistent lower back and/or pelvic pain is a common symptom associated with pelvic floor difficulties, so if you have low back and/or pelvic pain but also have bladder, bowel, or sexual difficulties then a Pelvic Health appointment with Cheryl is appropriate for you.

You might have been recommended to come and see us by a midwife, health visitor or friend. There might be a specific problem to assess or just an overall check up, to help give you peace of mind.

Whatever the reason, Baye's years of experience and training in cranial osteopathy and paediatric care will ensure you are in safe hands.

She will carefully assess your little one for any stresses or strains which may be causing them discomfort.

Up to half of all postnatal people experience difficulties in both the abdominal muscles and pelvic floor muscles after pregnancy, and up to a third have a tummy gap at eight weeks post-birth. This can lead to the development of pelvic and/or back pain, and/or bladder, bowel and sexual dysfunction.

New parents need to bend, squat and lift daily, so we provide postnatal clinical care and at-home exercise programmes in order to feel strong and efficient in these movements.

Your Postnatal Check includes:
- Full postural screen
- Screening for bladder, bowel or sexual dysfunction
- Checking the healing of abdominal (C-Section) scars, or episiotomies
- Pelvic floor muscle assessment
- Abdominal muscle exam to check for any diastasis recti abdominis (DRA)
- Education and advice on activities such as lifting your baby or pushing a buggy
- Bespoke rehabilitation programme with your goals and lifestyle factors in mind
- A written report of the findings of your assessment

Cheryl also utilises Low Level Laser Therapy and LPG Endermologie® to help any scars heal to their best potential.

If it has been over 2 years since your last pregnancy, please book a Pelvic Health appointment instead.

Get to know me

Hi! I’m Cheryl. I graduated from the European School of Osteopathy in 2010, and took over the long-established Sandgate Clinic in 2017 to become the Principal Osteopath and clinic director.

My areas of special interest within Osteopathy are: - how stress and trauma affects the body at any age (how it manifests in symptoms that patients experience, such as chronic pain) - perinatal care (pregnancy and postpartum) - pelvic health (for all sexes and ages!)

My approach

I treat using both structural and cranial approaches, as well as coaching movement. I completely dedicate myself to my clients, tackling hard to fix problems and finding long term solutions to pain.

I see both men and women, young and old, with a wide variety of health concerns. Utilising both hands-on work as well as movement coaching, I aim to unravel the layers of poor posture, dysfunctional breathing patterns, stress, and body mechanics to discover the underlying cause of aches and pains.

My goal is to empower my clients to help improve their own wellbeing - by finding ways to support their nervous systems, by prescribing at-home movements and exercises, and through easy-to-implement lifestyle changes.

I love to help people feel safe in their bodies again, and to feel more confident in everyday activities

Extra Qualifications

A lifelong student, I have completed many post-graduate trainings, including: - Women’s Health post-graduate Diploma - Restore Your Core® movement therapy - Body Ready Birth® birth preparation - Mummy MOT® - Pro-Sport Academy Mentorship - Stress Illness Recovery

In my spare time…

I love to be outdoors - hiking, chopping wood, gardening, paddleboarding, or just watching the waves from our campervan!

I also enjoy crafting, cooking, playing tabletop games, and am now learning Greek!

A little note…

My gorgeous dog Murphy is sometimes in clinic with me, too. She is a Romanian street rescue, and she a very good girl who lives to give and receive love.

If you’d prefer for Murphy to be put into another room when you visit, please do let us know.

I love how the philosophies of both Osteopathy and Yoga align in a way that understands the importance of the collaboration of every facet of our being as humans.

Feeling inspired by human connection, I feel it is valuable for everybody to experience this, which is something I bring into the treatment room. I hold space for my patients to be heard as much as I can facilitate.

My approach

I treat all areas of the body, but have a speciality in foot, ankle, and gait (walking) issues.

I enjoy working with any patient motivated to get back to better health and better movement, regardless of age and activity background.

My treatments usually include a combination of cranial and structural techniques, as well as exercises to either strengthen and/or mobilise the body.

I enjoy empowering patients during their recovery process by teaching them about their bodies and why we are doing what we are doing.
