Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of medical conditions. It works with the structure and function of the body and is based on the principle that the well-being of an individual depends on every body system functioning smoothly together. This not only includes the skeleton, muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues, but also organs, blood vessels, the lymphatic system, nerves, and also the mind. Osteopaths seek out the cause of an issue rather than just treating the symptoms. We aim to resolve not only painful areas, but to greatly improve your overall wellbeing. Patients often report better sleep and more energy after having had treatments.

Osteopaths work to restore your body to a state of balance, where possible without the use of drugs or surgery. As Osteopaths we use touch, physical manipulation, stretching and massage to increase the mobility of joints, to relieve muscle tension, to enhance the blood and nerve supply to tissues and organs, and to help improve your body’s own healing mechanisms. We also provide lifestyle advice and exercise programmes to aid recovery, promote health and prevent symptoms recurring.

We are trained to identify when a patient needs to be referred to a GP or needs further tests to help diagnose a problem. All osteopaths in the UK are governed and regulated by the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC).

We are required to renew our registration each year and obtain an annual licence to practise. As part of this process, the GOsC checks that Osteopaths have current professional indemnity insurance, remain in good health and of good character, and have met mandatory continuing professional development requirements.

Baye graduated from the European School of Osteopathy in 2019 with a First Class degree and was the winner of the Clinical Excellence award.

She has spent the last 2 years working with orthopaedic patients during their post-op rehabilitation (including total knee, hip and shoulder replacements; ACL reconstructions; and spinal decompressions).

She treats all areas of the body, but has a speciality in foot, ankle, and gait (walking) issues.

Baye enjoys working with any patient motivated to get back to better health and better movement, regardless of age and activity background. Her treatments usually include a combination of cranial and structural approaches, as well as exercises to either strengthen and/or mobilise the body. She enjoys empowering patients during their recovery process by teaching them about their bodies and why we are doing what we are doing.

If she’s not in the treatment room or on the water rowing, Baye can often be found exploring the Kent countryside with her Springer Spaniel, Goose.

Cheryl graduated from the European School of Osteopathy in 2010, and took over the long-established Sandgate Clinic in 2017 to become the Principal Osteopath and clinic director.

She treats the whole family, including expectant mums and newborn babies, right through to grandma and grandpa :)

Cheryl’s area of special interest within Osteopathy is how stress and trauma affects the body at any age (how it manifests in symptoms that patients experience), and pelvic health.

She treats using both structural and cranial approaches, as well as cupping therapy, Low Level Laser Therapy and kinesiotaping.

Cheryl loves empowering her patients to help improve their own wellbeing - by finding ways to manage stress, by prescribing at-home movements and exercises, and through nutritional advice.

Cheryl’s dog Murphy is sometimes in clinic, too. Murphy is a Romanian street rescue, and she’s found a wonderful new life in Kent! If you’d prefer for Murphy to be put into another room when you visit, please do let us know.
